Alphabet Energy is committed to developing a waste-heat recovery technology, and we are sharing our enthusiasm about technology with students across the nation. Our company is conducting a student design competition to promote advancements in thermoelectric power generation and recruit talented individuals. |Organization: The American Society of Artificial Internal Organs
“What is ASAIO
A Premier Society that brings together the interests and talents of physicians, scientists, engineers, industry and entrepreneurs dedicated to the continually evolving field of artificial organs. Formed in 1955 to “promote the increase of knowledge about artificial internal organs and of their utilization,” it was the forum for first presentations about devices replacing the function of kidneys, hearts, lungs, pancreas and other organs. In 1955 Dr. L.W. Bluemle Jr. said, “I think we realized for the first time that we did have soul mates in an important field.” The same is true today. In the words of Dr. Thomas Depner, “ASAIO is a way of thinking, an orientation, an attitude, or a state of mind that promotes scientific investigation and innovation for the good of people who need artificial internal organs.”
Now through the work of its 800 members, the Annual Conference, the peer reviewed ASAIO Journal, and close cooperation with societies in Europe and Japan, ASAIO provides unique opportunities for investigators interested in artificial organ development and also for young investigators to interact with established experts and sponsoring companies. Due largely to ASAIO and its members, artificial hearts, lungs, kidneys, blood vessels and joints are now in common practice and entire new fields of clinical medicine have emerged, including nephrology, cardiac and vascular surgery, transplantation and intensive care.
The ASAIOfyi – For Young Innovators fosters the advancement of young innovators, including clinicians, students, and young investigators in academia and industry, by providing the capabilities to meet their needs and values early in their careers. ASAIOfyi provides meaningful scientific guidance and active participation in a professional organization with engineers, scientists, and clinicians; creates of a forum for the exchange of innovative ideas; and encourages young innovators to experience the artificial organs field now so they can choose a career path with greater understanding and perspective.”
ASAIO Student Design Competition
Now soliciting preliminary proposals no more than a page including figures. The proposal should be submitted no later than January 18th, 2013. Qualifying proposals will be invited to submit a two-page final report by April 26th, 2013 detailing the additional progress made and work accomplished.

The ASME IShow awards over $20,000 in product development support to top engineering student teams who have developed a creatively new product with real-world application. Now in its seventh year the ASME IShow is a premier technology showcase open to all ASME student members. Our aim: to inspire students to be product innovators, corporate change-agents and potentially entrepreneurs.

Position Summary: Associate Scientist (full time): The Integrative Neuroscience and Circuitry group at Pfizer is seeking an innovative individual with an interest in integrating engineering skills and biological research. We perform cutting-edge research aimed at combining and advancing in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetic manipulation, behavior, and pharmacology to better understand neural activity in models of neurological, neurodegenerative, and psychiatric diseases. The successful applicant will be responsible for the construction and further development of small-scale devices (e.g., manual microdrives for in vivo electrophysiology, basic circuit boards) to advance electrophysiological recordings, optogenetic manipulation, and behavioral paradigms.

Position Summary: Sr Systems Test Engineer (full time): The Senior Systems Test Engineer will successfully plan, execute and document the verification and validation testing of complex systems (optical, mechanical, thermal, fluidic, electronic, and motion) from the component level up to the integrated system level. Position Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer (full time): The responsibilities of this position include; design, testing and implementation of lighting fixtures from concept through launch. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of successful and timely completion of multiple projects, BSME with product design experience dealing with electro-mechanical products, complete understanding of plastic, die cast and sheet metal part design and in-depth knowledge of both progressive die tooling and CNC tooling, knowledge of UL/CSA/NOM standards and CAD and modeling software. Experience with Solid Works CAD system, Six Sigma tools and vendor management are all plusses.
This position performs a variety of engineering work in evaluating, sourcing and designing electronics assemblies into luminaire-based prototypes, products and related control systems. This position will work closely with other disciplines within the Innovation and New Product Development Teams in the development and timely completion of projects with specific emphasis on LED Lighting solutions and the associated LED driver development, specification, and supply chain.
